A Day as a Scientist: Third-Graders from Jasanová Elementary School Visit the Microbiome Analysis Laboratories

On Friday, January 13, we welcomed a group of promising future scientists to RECETOX! Third-grade pupils from Jasanová Elementary School came for a morning excursion - and they certainly didn’t lack energy, curiosity, or enthusiasm.

The program began with a short lecture about what it’s like to work in science and what laboratory work involves. Then it was time to get hands-on! The children tried several fun experiments—for example, acid-base reactions using red cabbage extract, isolating DNA from a banana, and each of them even made their own lava lamp, which now reminds them at home of the excellent lab skills they demonstrated. The pupils also explored the laboratory equipment and materials that scientists use every day. In the end, they did an amazing job during a short recap of what they had learned throughout the morning—proving that they would not get lost in the world of science at all.

We believe the children took home lots of experiences and new knowledge—and that they enjoyed the morning at least half as much as we did!
