The European Photochemistry Association (EPA) has awarded Prof. Petr Klán its award for decades of advancing the discipline internationally, substantially raising public awareness of the field, and shaping the photochemistry community beyond research, with special mention of the textbook Photochemistry of Organic Compounds: From Concepts to Practice which he co-authored with Jakob Wirz.

Unlike traditional research prizes, the European Ambassador of Photochemistry Award specifically recognizes outstanding contributions to the field beyond standard publication output. It recognizes Prof. Klán’s dedicated service to the photochemistry and photophysical community, efforts to diffuse the relevance of photochemical sciences to students at all levels, and active political and societal advocacy on behalf of the discipline.

Congratulations to Prof. Petr Klán on this well-deserved recognition!

Prof. Klán is head of the Organic Photochemistry research group at RECETOX. His team focuses on developing photochemically active compounds and fluorophores, utilizing light-driven chemistry to solve interdisciplinary problems. He is an author of more than 110 scientific publications with over than 3500 citations. He already received the Rudolf Lukeš Prize awarded by the Czech Chemical Society in 2014 and in 2013 the Award of the President of the Czech Science Foundation. He is also a member of The Learned Society of the Czech Republic.
