Starting Friday afternoon, students, families with children, science enthusiasts, and those interested in natural sciences streamed into Bohunice University Campus. At the RECETOX booth, all of them could try out interactive tests and exercises focused on cognitive functions, ranging from memory and attention to concentration.
Adults and our youngest visitors alike could try how successful they would be at multitasking or storing memories. Brain gymnastics using coordination tasks tested concentration, cooperation between the right and left hemispheres, and how flexibly people are able to think.
Part of Researchers' Night at the Bohunice University Campus was also a lecture series, which was opened by our colleagues Gabriela Kšiňanová and Eliška Hrežová. They spoke primarily about the role that nutrition and exposure to toxic substances during pregnancy play in the development of a child's brain and cognitive functions. The lecture explored how nutrition and toxic substances can affect a baby's neurodevelopment and what other mechanisms are related to it.
A big thank you to everyone who decided to wander all the way to RECETOX. A special thank you goes to our colleagues, staff, and students who dedicated their enthusiasm and a free evening to science popularization.
