During the first weekend of September, Brno once again hosted the Science and Technology Festival. The program offered visitors of all ages a look into various corners of human knowledge. This time, RECETOX focused on the brain.
Over the weekend, the Brno Exhibition Centre again held this popular event organized by the Brno Observatory and Planetarium. From Friday to Sunday, visitors to the Science and Technology Festival could visit booths of Brno universities, companies, or municipal institutions and experience science firsthand. RECETOX held its own alongside dozens of other enticing stations, focusing this year on the secrets of the human brain and how it works.
Our colleagues from Environmental Epidemiology group prepared a fascinating interactive program for the public. Children, families, and adult visitors enthusiastically tried out brain gymnastics - fun movement and coordination exercises that stimulate cooperation between the right and left hemispheres, cognitive flexibility, focus, and multitasking abilities.
Those who stopped by our booth tested their ability to coordinate two different activities for their right and left hands. Others used a tablet app to try the Stroop test, where they had to correctly identify the color a word was written in without getting confused by the color the word actually named. In doing so, they tested their information processing speed and selective attention. Because science does not just explain and educate, it can also be fun.
The meetup, held on September 22nd, 2026, in Cork under the Irish presidency of the EU, addressed a topic of „Strategic Consolidation of the European Research Infrastructure Landscape: Advancing coordinated access and strengthening strategic autonomy over critical research data”.
The conference was organized by the BBCE Centre at Riga Technical University (RTU) in Latvia and brought together representatives of Teaming Centres, European Commission, and European Research Executive Agency.
