Knowledge Security in Projects
Masaryk University (MU) is responding to global developments and, in accordance with requirements from the European Union and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS), has issued Directive No. 1/2025: Knowledge Security. This directive establishes binding rules to safeguard research and education at MU against illegitimate operation of threat actors undue influence by high-risk actors, high-risk country, and within high-risk industry. Security assessment is applied to staff business trips, study stays, projects carried out at MU, approval of contracts including memoranda of cooperation, establishment of employment relationships, admission to doctoral study programmes, and work, study and other stays at MU.
As part of this provision, a new Security section has been introduced into project documentation within ISEP. This section will be activated whenever a proposed project involves a high-risk industry (as defined in the official list of high-risk industries) or includes a partner from a high-risk country (as defined in the official list of high-risk country or any non-EU country). Both lists are subject to continuous updates.
The Security tab in ISEP must be submitted for review and approval by MU’s Security Manager no later than 14 days prior to the project submission deadline, to allow for an official assessment and recommendation (approval or non-approval).
In 2026, the Grant Office will issue a guideline for submitting project proposals, including fixed deadlines for providing mandatory information (e.g., security, ethics, etc.). These guidelines and deadlines will be distributed to all team leaders and principal investigators in January 2026.

The EU has taken a major step toward protecting soil health. In October 2025, the European Parliament adopted the Soil Monitoring Law to harmonize soil assessments across Member States, support farmers to improve soil fitness and resilience, and address emerging threats like microplastics. The overall objective of the directive is to achieve healthy soils by 2050. A public list of potentially contaminated soils will be created across all EU countries, and simplified procedures for Member States will be implemented without adding new obligations for farmers or foresters.

This year’s 45th edition of the DIOXIN conference took place in the first week of November in Antalya, Turkey. One of its sections focused on chemical management and the contribution of science to the implementation of international conventions protecting human health from the impacts of chemical exposure. The organizers dedicated this section to the memory of Ivan Holoubek, who devoted a large part of his professional life to work for the UN Environment Programme and to supporting chemical conventions, and who spent several years working on international projects in Turkey. His legacy was highlighted in the opening presentation by Ipek Imamoglu.
