RECETOX News 10/2021

NEW rules for publications

To prevent mistakes and improve the publishing policy at RECETOX, new affiliation and acknowledgement rules have been created. Please, follow the rules below. In case of any question please contact Michaela Hylsová.

Affiliation rules

All employees and students of the RECETOX are required to cite the institution affiliation as stated below:

RECETOX, Faculty of Science, Masaryk University, Kotlarska 2, Brno, Czech Republic

Short version (if necessary): RECETOX, Fac Sci, Masaryk Univ, Brno, Czech Republic

If an employee has a contract with another department of MU, the affiliations must be separated.

Example of CORRECT double affiliation:

  1. RECETOX, Faculty of Science, Masaryk University, Kotlarska 2, Brno, Czech Republic
  2. Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Masaryk University, Kotlarska 2, Brno, Czech Republic

New Acknowledgement rules

The rules apply only to publications with the first and corresponding authors from RECETOX.

  1. Authors of the publications shall send (ideally before/with submitting the paper) the final version of the manuscript to Michaela Hylsová for affiliation and acknowledgement control.
  2. The checked manuscript will be sent back to the authors as soon as possible. The full version of the manuscript is not necessary, the title, list of authors with affiliations and the acknowledgement text is sufficient for the control.
  3. Within submitting the paper, the authors should think about the Open Access (OA) pathway and then let us know, which OA was chosen. Please, keep in mind that open access publishing is obligatory for Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe projects.

PLEASE, TAKE INTO ACCOUNT, THAT THE PUBLICATIONS WHICH WILL NOT FULFILL THE AFFILIATION AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT RULES SINCE THE 1ST OF JANUARY 2022, WILL NOT BE REWARDED!

All necessary information is available on the Intranet.

EMBO Laboratory Leadership

In the first week of October, sixteen postdocs and new research group leaders underwent a three-day intensive course called "EMBO Laboratory Leadership". The course, which was conducted online, focused on the leadership of research groups and scientific teams and provided many practical advice and recommendations. The course builds on the activities undertaken within the RETRAIN network and will be repeated at regular intervals for new applicants.

Two years with ERA Chair

On October 1st, two years passed since the launch of the five-year R-Exposome Chair project. The first ten months of the project were devoted to the selection of candidates for the position of ERA Chair, which was filled in mid-2020 by prof. Martin Bobák and prof. Hynek Pikhart. Currently, the ERA Chair team already has ten members. For the duration of the project, the research group led by prof. Hynek Pikhart has already submitted more than 10 publications and 4 project proposals, including two MSCA projects. The members of the research group also participated in the preparation of research infrastructure projects and significantly participate in the teaching within the study program Environment and Health, within which they opened new courses focused on the analysis of environmental and biomedical data, epidemiology and social epidemiology.

New ENVHEALTH network member

The ERA-ENVHEALTH network was set up in 2008 as a collaborative project of 16 institutions from 10 EU countries. Within the support of EU funding, the partners have joined forces and resources to help increase the relevance and efficiency of environment and health research in Europe. While the original project ended in 2012, the ENVHEALTH partnership carries on. The partners jointly prepare an annual conference on cross-cutting topics of interest (COVID 19 and ENVHEALTH in 2021), publish newsflash and prepare project proposals. On 7 October 2021, Kateřina Šebková participated in the annual meeting as guest and presented the activities and research of RECETOX linking environment and health. At the meeting, the network committee approved our inclusion. The members stated they are looking forward to cooperation with us not only through PARC and EIRENE projects, but also to opportunities to meet in Brno.

Joint Council of Study Programmes

On Tuesday, October 12, the annual meeting of the joint council of study programmes Environment and Health, and Mathematical Biology and Biomedicine, which is composed of representatives of teachers, students and employers, took place. Among the main topics discussed were the preparation and submission of self-evaluation of study programmes, followed by programme evaluation and discussions with external evaluators, preparation of state final exams, discussion of study failure and further direction or modification of study programmes, which would enable wider use of study mobility (ERASMUS) or achieving a more significant share of subjects taught in English.

10 days left to comment on the EU Research Agenda by HERA

The HERA project (www.heraresearcheu.eu) supported by EU Horizon 2020 funding invites you to read and comment on the final draft EU Research Agenda in environment, health and climate 2030, which has been worked on by 24 organizations from 15 countries over the last two years. The document sets out research priorities and topics that the EU needs to address to strengthen the environment and health link, adapt to climate change and improve the quality of life. The proposed research needs and topics involve the natural sciences, connect them with the social sciences, change curricula and exploit research infrastructures and networks. The prepared document is very likely to affect the upcoming EU research calls under Horizon Europe, so please pay a due attention to it. You have 10 days left to read and comment on the relevance of identified research needs and proposals. We collect the views in an online form. The same link also comprises the final draft document:  https://www.heraresearcheu.eu/hera-2030-agenda.

How to behave during evacuation and where to gather?

In case of necessary evacuation of the building, e.g. in case of fire, we introduced a system of evacuation cards and updated the system of fire patrols. There are some changes in the location of assembly (evacuation meeting) points in the UCB areal. Here on INTRANET you can find the current plan of assembly (evacuation meeting) points and information on how to react during the evacuation.

Collection of topics for secondary schools

This school year we will be offering lectures for students of 3rd and 4th grades of secondary schools as part of the promotion of study programmes. If you are interested in getting involved, add your topic to the list in this file. Thank you in advance.
