Taxation of Employee Benefits

Effective from January 1, 2024, there have been several changes in Act No. 586/1992 Coll., on Income Taxes, as amended, regarding employee benefits. An employee benefit is considered to be any provision by the employer to the employee beyond the remuneration for work, which brings some usable benefit or advantage to the employee’s personal sphere. Typically, this includes the provision of meals in the form of breakfast/lunch/dinner provided at a conference/course organized by us, business breakfast/lunch/dinner with a colleague from MU, off-site meetings (if not a business trip), etc.
Income derived from the employee’s participation in an event of a “non-public” nature and organized “occasionally” (such as Christmas parties, anniversary celebrations, children’s days) is exempt from tax.
Detailed information (available only in Czech) is provided in Methodological Sheet ED No. 2/2024 Tax Aspects of Refreshments, Benefits, and Other Provisions Provided to Employees, HERE.
