Consortium

To establish the Centre of Excellence in Environmental Health Sciences the Masaryk University will be supported by leading European research institutions - University College London (UCL), Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH), Biobanking and Biomolecular Resources Research Infrastructure (BBMRI-ERIC), and International Clinical Research Centre (ICRC) at St. Anne’s Hospital.

Masaryk University, which is the second biggest university in the Czech Republic, is the coordinator of the project. The RECETOX Centre, established in 1983 at the Faculty of Science, is responsible for the project implementation at the the Masaryk University.

RECETOX is engaged in research and education in the field of management of environmental and health risks related to chemicals around us. RECETOX Centre is the entity around which the European Centre of Excellence is being developed.

UCL is London’s leading multidisciplinary university, and is currently ranked as the 5th best university in Europe and the 15th worldwide and it has one of Europe’s largest and most productive centres for biomedical science.

UCL brings the multidisciplinary expertise covering epidemiology, public heath, psychobiology, statistics and sociology, genetics, epigenetics and omics methods, with a strong emphasis on longitudinal studies, life-course determinants of health and environmental predictors of chronic conditions.

ETH Zurich is leading technical university, which is ranked 6th in the world and 2nd in Europe in 2019 and by subject is ranked 3rd in the world and 1st in Europe for engineering and technology.

ETH is the strategic partner for development of the highly competitive research field of microfluidics and nanoscale science with a great application potential.

BBMRI-ERIC is a pan- European distributed RI of biobanks. Its role is to support establishment of standardized procedures in on-going and new regional studies, and to facilitate the access to available resources in compliance with the FAIR-Health principles extended with principles specific to medical research related to reproducibility, quality of samples and data, and privacy protection.

International Clinical Research Centre of the St.Anne's University Hospital is the project partner combining fundamental and translational research with clinical medicine. This will provide us with the possibility to draw ICRC’s knowledge and expertise in the management and operations of the research Centre responsible for running population cohorts and clinical studies, which includes significant efforts in building reliable systems and policies, including the ethical issues.
