RECETOX News 5/2020

Pan-European Study of Pesticides long-range Atmospheric Transport (PESPAT)

In the end of the April the Pan-European Study of Pesticides long-range Atmospheric Transport (PESPAT) campaign was launched. This study will provide a comparison of pesticide levels in the air across Europe through active air sampling and will identify those pesticides prone to long-range transport. This is the first study of its kind on such a large scale including 31 sites from different areas (polar, mountain, rural) across Europe. The study focuses on more than 65 pesticides, with about half currently available on the European market.

RECETOX is the initiator and coordinator of this campaign, which will be attended by at least 31 organizations from 17 countries of the European Union.

PhD Defense at RECETOX

Since May 14, 2020, doctoral dissertation defenses of in the "Environment and Health" (Environmental Health Sciences) program have been taking place at RECETOX.

Two theses, "Determination of alkylphenols in environmental matrices" and "Analysis of estrogenic hormones in aqueous matrices" have already been successfully defended by Marek Pernica and Alena Otoupalíková respectively.

On May 21, 2020 - Marek Šudoma, Jana Priebojová and Zuzana Toušová will defend their doctoral thesis.

On May 28, 2020, seven of our students will take the state doctoral examination. Due to the current situation, the defense and SDZ will be combined – the student and internal members of the commission will be physically present while the other commission members and opponents will participate online.

Rewards for SOČ leading

The RECETOX high school research internship program (SOČ), offers aspiring young scientists practical and theoretical experience during their high school studies, in addition to their regular study activities. The internship gives students a unique opportunity to experience first-hand, experimental, and scientific work at a university level, and become acquainted with the scientific environment while working under the supervision of experts in the field.

Thanks to SOČ, students work on projects that eventually lead them towards a scientific career. For that reason and others, RECETOX supports SOČ, and now also offers a CZK 5,000 reward to participants. We would like to congratulate and thank those who have already defended their work. They can look forward to the award in May.

For further information, please contact Kateřina Nováková.

RECETOX Events

16th Summer School and SMURBS Training School 2020

On 15-19 June 2020, the 16th summer school will take place at RECETOX. This year it will be conducted exclusively online.

The main topic is "Contaminants in the environment."

Martin Scheringer from ETH Zurich, Christer Johansson from Stockholm University, Gerard Hoek from Utrecht University, and many other experts in the field have already confirmed their participation.

You can find regular updates for the event on our website.

MatLab Trainings

Martin Scheringer's research group offers vacancies for MatLab training. The first courses are planned for the end of August until the beginning of September 2020 and will be held in English. Materials in Czech will be available.

The price of the whole course is CZK 30,000 and it can be attended by 10-15 people. The price per person will, therefore, depend on the number of applicants and will be paid individually (from the resources of participant's research group).

If you are interested in the course and have any questions, please contact Klára Komprdová.
