RECETOX in 2021
How saw 2021 in numbers at RECETOX? In 2021, we have implmeneted a record number of research projects at RECETOX. We experienced a significant increase in the number of publications compared to last year, with 35% more publications published than in 2020. Over 73% of the 200+ publications were published in journals ranked in Q1 and 9% of those in the top 5. We also established 4 new research groups in 2021, we have 5 new junior-PIs, and EIRENE RI is on the ESFRI roadmap.

Jaromír Sobotka about Ph.D. studies at RECETOX
Jaromir Sobotka has just finished his Ph.D. studies at RECETOX. During his studies, he has been working on passive sampling and collaborating with colleagues from all over the world. We asked him what it was like to be a Ph.D. student and why he focused on passive sampling or stayed in Brno and not leave for Prague. Jiří Kalina at IS Global
Jirka Kalina spent two months in Barcelona to gain new experience in advanced human tissue biomonitoring data analysis. Jirka had been working with scientists at IS Global for a long time, but this Autumn, he met many of them in person for the first time. Barcelona has a lot to offer, from cutting-edge equipment and innovative approaches in data analysis to natural beauty and warm sun during the autumn season. As Jirka says, his life in Spain was partly limited by safety measures due to the covid-19 pandemic; nevertheless, he met colleagues from his field and exchanged experience with other researchers staying at the institution as postdocs.

Last doctoral defences in 2021
At the end of 2021, three PhD students successfully defended their dissertations at RECETOX.
- Nikola Bošković: Effect of biochar application on fate and bioavailability of conazole fungicides in soil (supervisor: prof. RNDr. Jakub Hofman, Ph.D. )
- Lucie Čtveráčková: Effect of environmental pollutants on liver tissue homeostasis (supervisor: doc. RNDr. Pavel Babica, Ph.D.)
- Jaromír Sobotka: Establishment of a network for long term monitoring of organic pollutants in aquatic environment on a global scale (supervisor: doc. Ing. Branislav Vrana, PhD.)

Luděk Sehnal: From research in Antarctica to discover new antibiotics
Masaryk University has had a long tradition of research in the polar regions. On 16 December 2021, the last expedition to Antarctica left Brno to investigate long-term land changes on James Ross Island and the impact of stress on the health of researchers in the polar regions. We talked about polar research with one of the previous participants of the Antarctica expedition, our colleague Ludek Sehnal, a researcher from the research group of Klara Hilscherova.

Signatures of the tax declaration for 2022
Signatures of the tax declaration for 2022 will be held in Campus on 19, 20 and 26 January 2022 from 9:00 to 13:00 in RCX2 (January 19) and RCX 1. It applies to all the employees, except those who work on specific contracts (DPP/DPČ).
Employees who have a main employment at another faculty will sign it there. If you apply the tax relief on children, prepare information about your spouse (RČ) and her/his employer.
For security reasons, please, everyone should bring your own pen and follow government regulations (wearing face mask, keeping distance). Disinfection will be available.
Bc. Evu Matoušková will answer your questions at the place. If you prepare the tax declaration by yourself, ask Bc. Eva Matoušková for the Income statement by email.

SOČ in 2022
RECETOX has participated in high school projects for many years. The goal of this activity is to allow exploring of interesting scientific topics for high school students (such as study od literature, experiments, writing of thesis and its defence in a national competition). Many of these high school projects supervised by our colleagues took top places in the regional and national competition. The high school students can try science by themselves due to these projects, and they may gain motivation for the whole life.
RECETOX supports the supervision of high school projects by 5000 CZK reward. This activity is newly counted in „XD102 Teaching assistance“ for Ph.D. students. This high school project topic can be written and communicated in English, but the thesis needs to be written and defended in the Czech language.
Until March the 1, you can announce your topic due to South Moravian Centre for International Mobility (https://www.jcmm.cz/projekt/soc_ucitele), you can get financial support (5000 CZK supervisor reward and 10 000 to 20 000 CZK for material).

TA ČR - Technology Agency of the Czech Republic
On 15 December 2021, the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic announced a second public tender in support of applied research, experimental development and innovation. More info only in Czech HERE.
The aim of the public competition and the program itself is:
- increasing the efficiency and quality of the results of applied research and technology transfer in key fields with a growth perspective;
- increasing the competitiveness of enterprises;
- strengthening the excellence and application relevance of research organizations.
The call deadline is April 6, 2022.
