ERA Chair at RECETOX

Environmental health research

Environmental influences on human health include individual and area-based factors, such as physico-chemical exposures (e.g. outdoor or indoor air pollution), socioeconomic factors (e.g. material deprivation), psychosocial factors (e.g. work stress) and health behaviors (e.g. smoking). The effects of environmental factors may be modified by genetic influences (gene-environment interactions). The totality of these (and other) internal and external exposures constitutes the concept of exposome.

Aims

The aim of the ERA Chair project is to develop new capacities for the Environmental Health research in Central and Eastern Europe. The group will establish new research programme in Environmental Epidemiology and will focus on analysis and interpretation of available regional data on the environmental exposures and their impacts on population health, and on development of new educational and training programmes in the Environmental Health Sciences. To achieve this aim, the work of the ERA Chair group will focus on developing the following three mutually linked domains:

  1. Research
  2. Education and training
  3. Visibility and impact
