RECETOX as an active participant of Czech Presidency

Six months. That is how long the Czech Republic was at the helm of the Council of the European Union (CZ PRES). The historic second Czech Presidency, with the slogan "Europe as a task," started on 1 July and ended on 31 December 2022. The Czech Republic faced several challenges as the presiding country, including the war in Ukraine, the energy crisis, and the negotiations on the EU Green Deal. The RECETOX experts helped during the Presidency. They were actively involved in international decision making on contemporary environmental issues.

Press release: Masaryk University hosts World Health Organization Collaborating Centre

The World Health Organization (WHO) often requires expert, scientific and technical support from other institutions. It has created an international network of collaborating centres that increases its capacity and brings top expertise over the long term. There are 290 collaborating centres in Europe, and the Czech Republic has had four since January 2023. And one of them is also the RECETOX research centre of the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University!

New video about studying Environment and Health at RECETOX

The study program Environment and Health has a new video! It aims to introduce studying at RECETOX to secondary school students informally. The video lets high schoolers learn more about specializations, plans, and career opportunities. The video tour is guided by Olinium, an influencer who popularizes chemistry. The video is available HERE.

We also hold a successful online stream with guarantors of the Environment and Health specializations and one of our students. They introduced the admissions requirements, study plans, career opportunities, and possible participation in research to those interested in studying at RECETOX. It was a fantastic opportunity to answer many questions from high schoolers.
The stream is available HERE.

Please, help us to share the videos!

Plan of construction works in pavilion D30

During January 2023, exploration and design works began in Hall D30 - INBIT. According to the schedule, construction works will start on March 1, 2023 (1st period) - reconstruction of sanitary facilities in 4. NP, followed 2nd period - reconstruction of sanitary facilities in 3. NP. The constraints caused by the construction works in these periods will be minimised, among other things, by installing a temporary dry-wall separating the construction from other areas.

On 26 May 2023, the 3rd period, namely demolition works in the 1st underground floor, should start, followed by demolition works in the 1st floor from June 2023 and in the 2nd floor from July 2023. In these periods, we already expect a major restriction of the operation of the D30 pavilion. We will keep you informed about the restrictions and their solution.

Revision of publications

During 2022, we checked the affiliations and acknowledgments of more than 130 publications of our researchers. Thanks to these revisions, financial resources for publication fees, including open access, are better planned and, above all, wrong dedications are eliminated, which is greatly appreciated by the project office when reporting indicators on individual projects. If you need to check affiliations and acknowledgments, please send the manuscript to michaela.hylsova@recetox.muni.cz. More information you can find here. Thank you very much for your cooperation!

EFSA Call

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has published a call for expressions of interest (EFSA/E/2023/01) for membership of EFSA's Scientific Panels and Scientific Committee at their renewal in 2024. This opportunity is open to scientific experts with relevant scientific expertise and a motivation to contribute to the protection of human and animal health and the environment in Europe who would like to apply for membership of one of EFSA's 10 Scientific Panels or Scientific Committee.

SOČ

RECETOX has participated in high school projects for many years. The goal of this activity is to allow exploring of interesting scientific topics for high school students (such as study od literature, experiments, writing of thesis and its defence in a national competition). Many of these high school projects supervised by our colleagues took top places in the regional and national competition. The high school students can try science by themselves due to these projects, and they may gain motivation for the whole life.

RECETOX supports the supervision of high school projects by 5000 CZK reward. This activity is newly counted in „XD102 Teaching assistance“ for Ph.D. students. This high school project topic can be written and communicated in English, but the thesis needs to be written and defended in the Czech language.

Until March 1, you can announce your topic due to South Moravian Centre for International Mobility , you can get financial support (5000 CZK supervisor reward and 10 000 to 20 000 CZK for material).

More information about SOČ available on the intranet HERE.

If you plan to offer a high school project or you want to know more information, please contact Rozárka Jílková.
