Our ESR, Kelsey Ng, spent his hybrid summer secondment at the Spanish National Research Council – Center for Advanced Studies of Blanes CSIC-CEAB). He performed a case study in collaboration with our ESR 12 - Nuria Rubio. This study investigated the occurrence of a wide range of environmental pollutants (such as antibiotics and plant protection products) in the rivers of Catalunya.
My secondment at Spanish National Research Council – Center for Advanced Studies of Blanes (CSIC-CEAB) in Blanes, Spain was in hybrid form during the period of June 2023 to August 2023. I performed a case study in collaboration with Nuria Rubio (ESR 12). The study involved an investigation into the occurrence of a wide range of environmental pollutants (such as antibiotics and plant protection products) in the rivers of Catalunya. The effects of the studied chemicals on the ecosystem services of the rivers in terms of biofilm performance would be explored.
It was a nice experience working at CSIC-CEAB, I had the pleasure to present at the CSIC-CEAB seminar about my research. It was a great opportunity for scientific exchange with the colleagues at CSIC-CEAB. They gave me a warm welcome and showed me the beautiful nature, food and culture of Blanes.
The secondment was a valuable addition to my PhD study and future career. I am looking forward to the scientific outcomes of the collaborative study. I would like to thank everyone at the CSIC-CEAB for making my stay in Blanes so delightful. Special thanks to Dr. Helena Guasch for engaging on the project. Our ESR Chander Kant Negi spend his two months secondment at Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA), Oslo in May and June 2023. He focused there on toxicogenomic assays. About his experiences, you can read in this report.
