Kelsey's secondment at NIVA

Our ESR Kelsey Ng spent his secondment at Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA) in Oslo, Norway. Kelsey performed a case study in collaboration with our ESR5 Simon Schmid and the involvement of other colleagues at NIVA. The study entailed evidence-mapping of an adverse outcome pathway (AOP) with the findings from the Joint Danube Survey 4 (JDS4) – bridging the determined chemical stressors to the measurable adverse outcomes at the ecological level by the selected AOP.

I am Kelsey Ng, the ESR3 of the PRORISK project. I was hosted by Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA) for my secondment in Oslo, Norway in the period of August – October 2022. Under the supervision of Dr. Knut Erik Tollefsen, I performed a case study in collaboration with ESR5 (Simon Schmid) and the involvement of other colleagues at NIVA. The study entailed evidence-mapping of an adverse outcome pathway (AOP) with the findings from the Joint Danube Survey 4 (JDS4) – bridging the determined chemical stressors to the measurable adverse outcomes at the ecological level by the selected AOP. The development of a state-of-the-art methodology for the bridging process is in progress under the project.

I am grateful for the lovely people at NIVA who offered me a warm welcome to the well-equipped working environment. It was great for knowledge exchange, such as the faglunsj (lunch seminar) that I participated. It was remarkably inspiring working with well-established experts in various fields at NIVA, I gained much insight into ecotoxicological risk assessment from the communication and collaboration.

Last but not least, the stay in Norway offered me the opportunity to explore the breath-taking nature and the unique culture of the country. The secondment at NIVA was a valuable addition to my PhD study and future career. I am highly excited for the scientific outcomes of the collaborative study.
