Our ESR Nuria Rubio spent her hybrid secondment in May 2023 with Consulteco, a Czech consulting company focused on chemistry and environmental services.
I am Nuria Rubio, ESR 12 in the PRORISK network. My project aims to link the condition of biofilms in rivers to the provision of ecosystem services. In order to learn more about Environmental Risk and Impact Assessment I went in May 2023 to a private consulting company Consulteco in the Czech Republic. This visit provided me with experience in a non-academic sector and gave me an opportunity to see and discuss various aspects of Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA) from a different point of view.
During my secondment I also cooperated with Masaryk University and was working on development of a framework for aligned project on ERA related to my PhD work (Ecological Risk Assessment of benzotriazoles) and was learning about chemical exposure assessment (instrumental analyses for benzotriazoles).
Virtual part of my secondment was then focused on reporting benzotriazole concentration analysis and presenting results of impact of benzotriazoles in fluvial biofilms in experimental channels.
It was very interesting to see and discuss ERA in practice of a small enterprise and to learn about consultancy of environmental issues and fulfilling legislative requirements.
Our ESR Chander Kant Negi spend his two months secondment at Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA), Oslo in May and June 2023. He focused there on toxicogenomic assays. About his experiences, you can read in this report.
