My secondment at the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), Department of Environmental effects and Ecosystems, started on 01 April 2022 and ended on 30 June 2022. The action plan during the secondment was to derive recommendations for splitting Species Sensitivity Distributions and relating ecotoxicological effects to species loss.

Marco Klaassen, Leo Posthuma, Michiel Rutgers, Jaap Slootweg, and their team were very welcoming and supportive during the stay. Leo Posthuma (co-supervisor) and Michiel Rutgers were the first to reach out to me and show me around, making my transition seamless.

Undoubtedly, the secondment program played a crucial role in learning from my co-supervisor one-on-one from his immense knowledge and experience. In addition, I had a chance to have dinner with his family, which was terrific. This showed me how he values his students beyond work.

The warm environment at the department enabled me to create new contacts, learn what others are working on and have fun through organized outdoor activities and chats over lunch and coffee breaks.

My experience in the Netherlands was awe-inspiring, thanks to the fantastic RIVM staff led by Marco Klaassen.
