Biostatistics and data analyses

Biostatistics and data analyses core facility provides expertise and resources to support statistical analysis and data management for biological research projects. From clinical data to exposome data, from genomics to metabolomics and from epigenomics to biomedical imaging, this core facility offers integrated data analysis and tailored solutions in biostatistics and biomarker discovery.

Our core facility is dedicated to analyzing big data from various fields of life sciences. We have extensive experience in data analysis from various *omics modalities (metagenomics, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, epigenomics, …) and bioimaging. The facility focuses on applied data analysis and method development.

The biostatistics and data analysis core facility is staffed by expert statisticians, mathematical biologists and data analysts who collaborate with researchers to design studies that generate high-quality data and ensure statistical validity. The facility's experts are proficient in a wide range of statistical techniques, including hypothesis testing, regression analysis, survival analysis, meta-analysis, image analysis and machine learning as well as specialized state-of-the-art approaches dealing with compositional data and data from high-throughput technologies. Our data analysts are skilled in a variety of software and tools for data management and analysis, including R, Bioconductor and Python and image analysis specialty software.

Services

The facility provides following services:

Analyses / Access to Data

  • We provide complex integrative data mining and statistical analysis of data from omics experiments, including result interpretation. In addition, we offer data-driven hypothesis generation. We are specialized in biomarker detection and construction of predictive, prognostic or diagnostic signatures and classifiers. The group also develops its own portfolio of methods and customized data analysis pipelines to answer various less standard analytical problems.
  • Our facility closely collaborates with the Sequence data preprocessing and analysis core facility to offer fully integrated services following the experimental life cycle from complex experimental design to data interpretation and new hypothesis generation.

Consultations

Whether you are just thinking about a new experiment or already have the resulting data, you may contact us with your questions and we will assess the feasibility of the various analyses required. Ideally, you would contact us at the experimental design stage, so we can ensure that all the relevant information will be available to answer your questions.

We also provide consultations on data analysis and methods.

Access

Access is available to academic users and researchers, including representatives of the commercial sphere and industry. Academic users and researchers can access through the Open Access project. Application for access is made at: https://openaccess.recetox.cz/. Industrial users can directly contact coordinator of RECETOX REsearch Infrastructure RNDr. Petra Růžičková, Ph.D. (openaccess@recetox.muni.cz), who will answer questions about available capacities, expertise and other conditions of cooperation.

her, e.g. industrial, users. The users from academia may use the open-access project, while the users from the industry may contact RNDr. Petra Růžičková, Ph.D. directly to discuss available capacities and expertise.
