Petra Bořilová Linhartová, PhD.
PI - Environmental genomics

Petra Bořilová Linhartová studied Biochemistry at the Faculty of Science MU and Pharmacy at the Faculty of Pharmacy at UVPS. Subsequently, she obtained her doctoral degree in Physiology and Pathological Physiology at the Faculty of Medicine MU, obtained the degree of RNDr. in the field of Immunology at the Faculty of Science at the Charles University, and became an associate professor in Medical Biology at the Faculty of Medicine MU. In 2020, she obtained the degree MBA in the field Manager of Schools and School Facilities at IFBM in Prague. Her research focuses on the study of the etiopathogenesis of human diseases, especially from the perspective of molecular genetics. It addresses with genetic predispositions to complex diseases, the relationship between the host and its microbiota in health and disease (immunogenetics, oncogenetics, microbiome), and interactions between genome and exposure (pharmacogenetics, epigenetics).

So far, she has dealt mostly with diseases of the orofacial area, gastrointestinal tract, and immune system. She studied the etiopathogenesis of diseases such as dental caries, apical periodontitis, periodontitis, odontogenic cysts, oral squamous cell carcinoma, aphthous stomatitis, oral lichen planus, craniofacial malformations, obstructive sleep apnea, gastroesophageal reflux disease, diabetes mellitus, inhalation injury, toxic epidermal necrolysis, and is currently working on studies focusing on malignant hyperthermia and burn patients. Multidisciplinary research is conducted in cooperation with partners from the academic community, university hospitals, as well as the commercial sphere, focusing mainly on the implementation of the outputs into clinical practice in accordance with the concept of personalized medicine.

Her publication portfolio includes 35 WoS articles published in a vast majority (more than 90%) in journals indexed above the median of the field, and her h-index is currently 10 (162 citations). At MU, she was / is the principal / co-investigator of one project awarded by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, (TAČR): Use of nanofibers for the application of bioactive substances using dental floss (FW02020042); and three projects funded by the Czech Health Research Council (CHRC), namely: Modern biotechnological and behavioral approaches in caries research and strategies for its prevention (NV17-30439A), Molecular etiopathogenesis of apical periodontitis and odontogenic cysts (NU20-08-00205), and Host microbiome in relation to the development of Barrett's esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma (NU20-03-00126).

Since 2019, she has been a member of the CHRC panel P08 BiomedicineTechnologies. In 2018, her study on adipokines was awarded at the World Immune Regulation Meeting in Davos, and in 2020, she received the MU Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Research Results Achieved by Young Scientists under 35. In 2020-2021, she was the Vice-Dean for Research and Doctoral Studies at the Faculty of Pharmacy MU.

She is the guarantor of the lecture Research Activities in Dentistry at the Faculty of Medicine MU; she also participates in teaching the lecture Clinical Genetics. At the Faculty of Science MU, she participates in teaching the lecture Human Molecular Genetics and Molecular Basis of Pathophysiological Processes, and at the Faculty of Medicine of the Charles University, in teaching Microbiology. She is the author of a number of pedagogical works. She currently leads 5 students in doctoral studies; in 2021, one Ph.D. thesis was successfully defended under her supervision.
