Development of interdisciplinary study programmes

Traditionally, the Centre provided the undergraduate education in three majors, Environmental Chemistry, Ecotoxicology, and Computational Biology, and the graduate education in Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology. Later, new educational programmes of the Centre were developed based on two interdisciplinary study programmes, Environmental Health Sciences, and Computational Biology and Biomedicine. Very similar scheme applies also to master level of education.

For now, RECETOX provides multidisciplinary study programs incorporating a vast array of fields, which are specifically designed to address the highly complex interactions between environment and health. The partners participate both on the development of study programmes, but also on their implementation via teaming, supervision of students, co-supervision of students or other participation.

Environment and health

This study programme focuses on the effects of environmental pollution on human life and health, and the health of ecosystems. It is taught at the bachelor's, master's, and Ph.D. levels.

Mathematical Biology and Biomedicine

This study programme deals with the application of mathematical and analytical approaches in biology, biomedicine, and medicine. It is taught at the bachelor's, master's, and Ph.D. levels.

More about new programmes

Environment and Health

Environment and Health is an interdisciplinary study programme that focuses on current environmental challenges closely related to the quality of human life. Although environmental topics appear in other study programs at our university, our new programme represents the only comprehensive study program of the Environmental Health Sciences type. It approaches the problems of the environment predominantly from a natural science point of view, which is complementary to the sociologically / socioeconomically oriented programme Environmental Studies at Faculty of Social Sciences.

The acceleration of societal demand for solving burning environmental problems (documented e.g. in EU Green Deal) is already evident. It is becoming increasingly clear that these issues are very complex and go beyond the boundaries of classical disciplines. The importance of the existence of complex educational programs such as Environment and Health becomes more than obvious. Graduates of the study program will become interdisciplinary experts who can comprehensively grasp environmental challenges, integrate existing information, propose solutions and apply them in practice.
