Martin Toul received the Award of the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports for outstanding students and graduates of the study programme and for outstanding student achievements.

The MEYS (Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports) Award in the field of higher education, science and research was presented on 20 November by the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Mikuláš Bek and the Minister of Science, Research and Innovation Helena Langšádlová. A total of 21 laureates were awarded.

In the category for outstanding students and graduates and for outstanding student achievements, Martin Toul was awarded the Minister of Education Award along with ten other laureates from all over the Czech Republic. The award has been granted since 2014 and can be won by a student or graduate of a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree programme for outstanding achievements in studies or in scientific, research, development, artistic or other creative activities related to studies. The award is also given for an exceptional act of civic bravery, responsibility or dedication.

Martin is a graduate of the PhD programme in Molecular and Cell Biology and Genetics at the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University. He worked as a researcher in the Loschmidt laboratories at the RECETOX Center. He was interested in protein engineering and with Martin Mark elucidated the mechanism of the light-harvesting enzyme luciferase in the marine animal, the violet renile. They published their findings in the prestigious journal Nature Catalysis.

Martin is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Vlaams Institut voor Biotechnologie (VIB) in Belgium.
