Under the auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO)  and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the 7th joint European Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health took place in Budapest from 5 to 7 July 2023.

RECETOX co-hosted one of the parallel sessions with the French agency ANSES. Jana Klánová (Masaryk University), Robert Barouki (INSERM) and Roel Vermeulen (Utrecht University) presented the most important international research activities and projects in the session on building European capacity for health protection against chemical exposures: the EIRENE research infrastructure, the European PARC partnership, the international network for human exposome research EHEN and the environmental think tank SPHERA.

The presentations initiated a lively discussion on the need for interdisciplinary and intersectoral collaboration at international level. Similar to the previous conference held in 2017 in Ostrava, the event concluded with the so-called Budapest Declaration defining European priorities in the field of environment and health for the next five years.

The new opportunities that this declaration opens up for cooperation at national level were discussed by the Centre's representatives with a delegation from the Czech Ministries of Health and Environment, as well as with the new Head of the WHO Office in the Czech Republic, Zsófia Pusztai.
