Organization and Management

The organizational structure and management of the centre is governed by the Organising Rules of RECETOX, which is being updated annually. The major changes have been made in 2020 and 2021 respectively in terms of number and composition of research programmes, the actual research groups, newly established positions of co-PIs and junior PIs, new structure of the Research infrastructure and upgraded Support Functions of the centre comprising of Operations and Administrations, but also of the Office of the Director. The main changes in the structure are the following:

  • New research programme of Environmental Health established;
  • New research groups within research programmes established;
  • Positions of junior PIs or co-PIs introduced;
  • New structure of RECETOX Research Infrastructure;
  • The interdisciplinary RETRAIN group established;
  • The Office of the Director established;
  • The Support Functions department agenda divided among the Operational Director and his/her deputy;
  • All units in the organizing scheme set as separate units in terms of management, controlling and financial management having their own budget and given level of independence;

The management of the RECETOX Centre

The new organizational structure lead to the update of the governing bodies of the Centre. Currently, the governing and management bodies of the Centre are:

      • Director of the Centre;
      • Director’s Collegium;
      • Operations Director;
      • Extended Director’s Collegium;
      • RECETOX Centre Council (acting as the Scientific Board of the Centre);
      • International Scientific Advisory Board of the RECETOX Centre;
      • RECETOX Centre Employee Assembly.
Director of the Centre

The Director is responsible for all aspects of the management of the Centre, the quality of its research and educational activities, and the economical, effective, and efficient use of the financial resources received by the Centre. The Director exercises managerial authority over all employees of the Centre and issues Director’s Instructions and Director’s Directives to regulate and manage the Centre in such a manner as to foster its educational and research activities. The Director makes strategic decisions for the Centre and creates the instruments, including financial and incentive instruments, to meet the Centre’s strategic goals.

Director’s Collegium

The operations of the Centre are managed through the Director’s Collegium, whose members are appointed by the Director and include the heads of research programmes, guarantors of degree programmes, the Research Infrastructure Director, the Director of the National Centre, the Head of the Director’s Office, and the Operations Director. This collegium usually weekly.

Extended Director’s Collegium

The Extended Collegium also includes the heads of research groups and central units to ensure efficient communication and flow of information within the Centre. It usually meets bi-monthly or when necessary.

Operations Director

The Operations Director participates in the creation of the Centre’s long-term strategy, in particular the concept of financial sustainability and economic management. The OD manages economic, personnel, project, operational and administrative agendas across the Centre, including supervision of their realisation and compliance control.

RECETOX Centre Council

The Council is acting as the Scientific Board of the Centre and is Director’s advisory body. The Council is chaired by the Director, who presents annual reports regarding the Centre’s activities and annual strategic plans to it. In particular, the Council discusses the Centre’s long-term concept and development strategy, including strategic investments, human resources development policy, development of existing and accreditation of new study programmes, and the scientific direction of study programmes, including their modification and termination, and creation of new ones. The Council takes care of the coordinated development of the Centre’s educational and research activities, Research Infrastructure capacities and the National Centre’s activities. The members of the council are the Heads of the Research Programmes, the representatives of the Advanced Partners, and also the representative of the RECETOX Students. The director invites the guest who may provide necessary information or contribute to the discussion. 

International Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB)

Additional support to the director is provided by the International Scientific Advisory Board established during the Teaming Phase 1 project to assist with a preparation of the long-term strategy of the Centre. It consists of recognised senior scientist experienced in the management and development of research facilities.
